Your Guiding Hand Through The Legal System

What should I do after being involved in a car accident?

Being involved in a car accident can be a very traumatic experience. Unfortunately, it’s also something that will happen to most people at some point in their lives. Because accidents are so common in Georgia and across the U.S., understanding what to do in the immediate aftermath should you become involved in one can be very helpful.

Here are three things to keep in mind.

Checking for injuries

First and foremost, you need to evaluate potential injuries to you and your passengers. If you and/or your passengers have been injured, then you should contact emergency services and seek immediate medical care. There is nothing more important than getting the treatment you need in a prompt manner.

Documenting the wreck

Next, you should think about documenting what happened. For instance, you may want to take pictures of the crash scene to show where the vehicles are on the road. You may want to take pictures of all of the damage, and a picture of the other driver’s license plate. It may be best to simply walk around the scene and take a video that encompasses everything, and you can also talk to witnesses and collect their contact information.

Getting information from the other driver

If possible, you also want to get insurance information and personal information from the other driver. You need to know how to file an insurance claim, and you need to know exactly who hit you, especially if you think you may need to start a lawsuit to recover compensation for your injuries.
