Your Guiding Hand Through The Legal System

How Much Is Your Personal Injury Case Worth?

One common question people have after a serious accident or injury is, “What is my case worth?” You probably want to know how much you can expect to receive for your injuries, and whether it’s really worth it to file a claim.

I am Brunswick attorney Steven L. Morgan, and over the past decades, I have addressed this question with countless clients. However, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The truth is that every accident is different and every person is different. This makes it impossible to assign a dollar value to a case until we look at a wide array of factors. Here are just a few of those factors:

  • What type of injury did you suffer?
  • How severe the injury is?
  • What kind of medical care you will need?
  • How much time you must take off work?
  • Your age and prior health status
  • The financial impact on your family
  • Your pain and suffering
  • Whether you were partly at fault or not
  • How much the other party can afford to pay?

Assigning A Dollar Amount To Your Pain And Suffering

Some factors are easy to calculate in dollars. For instance, if you incurred $20,000 in medical bills, it probably makes sense to request the same amount of money to compensate for those bills.

However, calculating pain and suffering is much harder. Georgia law doesn’t provide a formula to lawyers, insurance companies or anyone else. The value of your suffering is subjective and open to debate. That’s why it’s so important to have an attorney on your side who can fight for your interests.
