Your Guiding Hand Through The Legal System

Injured On The Job? What You Need To Know About Workers’ Compensation.

If you suffered an on-the-job injury or work-related illness in Georgia, the odds are that workers’ compensation insurance will cover the cost of your medical care. Your employer pays to maintain this insurance coverage, so it doesn’t cost you anything. Workers’ compensation can also cover prescription medications, mileage reimbursement for traveling to and from appointments, vocational rehabilitation and more.

Even though this seems simple, many injured employees have trouble actually obtaining the medical benefits they need. That’s where I come in. I am Steven L. Morgan, a workers’ compensation attorney with decades of experience in Glynn County and the surrounding areas. I can provide the advice and assistance you require.

Can I Choose Which Doctor I Want?

Yes and no. You are allowed to choose any physician from the list of six or more authorized medical providers that your employer posted at work. (Your employer is supposed to post this list in a conspicuous place, so it’s easy to find.)

If you don’t like the first doctor that you selected from that list, you are allowed to change to someone else on the list. You can make such a change one time during the course of your treatment, and you don’t need your employer’s permission to do so.

What If I Was Taken To The Emergency Room?

Workers’ compensation is supposed to cover emergency medical treatment, even if the emergency doctor you see isn’t on your employer’s list of approved physicians. However, it must be a true emergency, and afterward, you must choose someone from the list for ongoing care and treatment.
